The Gunslinger By Stephen King is the first book from the Dark Tower series. This is an amazing fantasy, western fiction, time travel and horror novel published in 1982. To be honest this is one of my favorite books. When I started reading it, I finished it in 2 days. I just couldn’t stop.
The novel follows the adventure of a gunslinger, the last one in his world, Roland Deschain of Gilead. Roland was chasing for years for the man in black, his adversary known as Walter. In his journey he meets different characters: Zoltan, a crow, a farmer called Brown and a boy, Jake Chambers. The young boy will follow Roland on his journey through the desert.
Who is Jake? When Roland hypnotizes him he finds out that in his dimension, his world in a parallel Universe, he died by being hit by a car on his way to school. He was pushed by someone.
I will not spoil the story for you but later the man in black sends Roland a vision to show him how small he is, how insignificant: He shows him a red planet with many channels (could be Mars), a ring of rocks (could be the asteroid belt) a large planet that looks very stormy (could be Jupiter) a ringed planet (for sure Saturn). Walter was trying to make him quit his quest to reach The Dark Tower, showing him the power of the Universe and his nothingness in front of it.
So his journey and challenge is to reach The Dark Tower. What is The Dark Tower and why is it so important for Roland to go there? Will he finally achieve in his quest? I will let you discover it all for yourself.
On August 2017 the Gunslinger by Stephen King was released on the big screen and the film was actually a combination of three books from the Dark Tower series; The Gunslinger, The Waste Lands and The Wind Through The Keyhole.
So, if you didn’t yet read The Gunslinger you really should. It is an amazing fantasy book and Stephen King’s imagination never lets us down:.
Thanks for reading.
